RX Plastics new managing director Brent Dawson is relishing the opportunity to get closer to his customers throughout New Zealand, and particularly here in Canterbury. Having recently moved back to his roots in the South Island at the company's Ashburton base, Brent is upbeat about the opportunities that exist for a company with manufacturing plants firmly based in the rural heartland of Mid-Canterbury and the Waikato.

Established over 40 years ago, RX Plastics specialises in designing and manufacturing pipe, irrigation components, tanks and irrigation systems, offering a "one stop" solutions-based approach to the water needs of farms and growers.

For the past seven years RX Plastics has been owned by international company Aliaxis.

Brent takes on the position after a 15 year stint with Gallaghers in Hamilton, most recently as Group Supply Chain and Manufacturing Executive there. He says the opportunity to work for a company that has a commitment to manufacturing and developing products here in New Zealand was highly appealing.

"It is great to be part of a company that is highly innovative, that employs Kiwis and has a lot more to offer its rural customers. Companies like this are not that common anymore."

RX Plastics is best known for its innovative and affordable K-Line irrigation system that is easily moved and adapted to varying paddock sizes. Irrigation solutions are one area Brent is particularly excited about as the company promotes the G-Set irrigation system.

"It is proving ideal for farmers wanting a permanent irrigation system where perhaps a centre pivot is not as suitable. We are already receiving very good feedback about it from some of the first farms where it is installed in the South Canterbury and North Otago areas."

With more irrigation schemes advancing in the South Island, he can see significant potential for a system that is well suited to country once considered marginal due to lack of water or suitable irrigation solutions.

"It also works well alongside centre pivot systems, filling in those areas the pivot can't reach."

A key focus for him over coming months is to increase awareness among farmers and growers that RX Plastics can offer more than just "one component" to their water jigsaw problem.

The company has dedicated training and investment into a team of regional representatives who have a good level of water system design skills and experience to share with retailers and farmer/grower clients.

"As a company we can deliver the complete solution, from tanks, valves, pipe and other components, making RX Plastics a good choice as a very simple, one stop supplier for anyone grappling with water system needs.

"We pride ourselves on being able to offer a complete solution that enables better management of a highly valuable resource."
